Alex Hamill | Executive member

Alex originally got involved as JMF's inaugural Chairman. He had known John for some time through triathlon (Alex was fortunate to be in Hawaii when John was inducted into the Hall of Fame) and did not hesitate when John asked for his help.
Alex has worked in the advertising industry since he was 14 years old. During the last 44 years of his career he spent 34 years with the George Patterson Group in Australia and Asia, Australia’s largest advertising and marketing services company. During his time there he was voted Agency Executive of the Year on a number of occasions, by BRW magazine, and Advertising Executive of the Decade in 2000. At the time of his retirement, in 2000, Alex was Chairman and CEO of The George Patterson Group and Regional Director Bates Asia with responsibility for seven countries and on the board of Cordiant UK which was listed in both New York and London. He couldn't stay away. He returned to the group in 2002, as Executive Chairman, to lead a private equity funded MBO. The company was sold to WPP. Alex remained Emeritus Chairman for a further two years to facilitate the merger of the Australian companies.
Alex was also Media Director of the Australian Olympic team in Sydney, Athens and Beijing. He also worked for two years on the Melbourne Commonwealth Games marketing committee.
Alex is currently on the board of Prime Television where his major involvement is in leading their digital expansion.
Time management is obviously a strong trait of Alex's. Despite having a demanding career, Alex somehow managed to find the time to train for and compete in over 150 triathlons including 7 Ironman (2 in Hawaii) and over 40 marathons.
The thing about John that has always inspired Alex is John's desire to use his profile to help kids who are physically challenged.
"I can honestly say that in all my years meeting leaders in politics, sports, business and the arts, no one can inspire others likes John…his communication skills with kids in particular are unsurpassed".
