Melbourne's David Dang is diagnosed with the degenerative condition of Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy. David stopped standing and walking at the age of six, and has presented with quite rapid deterioration. He is dependent on a power wheelchair for all mobility, and requires significant assistance for most daily activities. David’s family are immigrants who have limited support from family and friends. David’s father used his superannuation money to buy a van, which can easily transport David while he remains seated in his wheelchair. However, the van requires significant modifications in order that the power wheelchair can be correctly and safely fitted and restrained. The John Maclean Foundation contributed $7500 which will enable David to move about town and socialise with his family and peers in a comfortable and easy fashion. David and his father attended the official presentation of the funds at the Urban Hotel St Kilda on February 9th.
